STICK TO YOUR PERMIT OR RISK YOUR BUSINESS, TURKANA TRADERS WARNED

County Government of Turkana has warned traders against engaging in business ventures not approved by their trading licences and termed the the practice as illegal.

During a joint operation in Lodwar Municipality conducted by Trade, Lands and Revenue departments, traders were also warned against failure to renew their single business permit as required by the County.

Mark Amiyo, the Acting chief officer of Trade, Gender and Youth Affairs explained that traders were expected to renew their single business permit in the month of January every new year and said that the operation was meant to determine compliance to the legal and financial provisions.

Acting Chief officer for Lands Shemmy Ebulon noted that a section of the wholesale traders were conducting their businesses in such a manner that disadvantaged small scale retail traders and urged them to stop the dishonest manoeuvres.

The move comes at a time when the County is seeking to strengthen the flow of it’s revenue streams after recording a positive surge in the last reporting period.
