The County Government through the Directorate of Veterinary Services and Frontiers Counties Development Council (FCDC) have rolled out an E-Surveillance training for veterinary officers on Kenya Animal Bio Surveillance System (KABS).

The two-day training aims at equipping veterinary officers with new technologies that provides timely reporting through KABS, a mobile-based app that is used nationally to report and track animal diseases.

It also seeks to improve capacity in detection, reception, analysis, resource mobilization and evidence-based planning for response through animal data.

County Director of Veterinary Services, Dr Benson Longor, appreciated FCDC for facilitating the training which he said is key in enhancing the capacity of vet officers on surveillance for managing present and emerging zoonotic diseases especially in border areas.

“The KABS is essential tool that will ensure gradual improvement of the animal disease surveillance system and improve reporting in the County,” he said.

Director Longor also noted that with strategic and effective collaboration with partners will realize improved animal health in line with the food security agenda.

“We are also fast tracking the operationalization of cold chains in Sub-Counties as part of actions that will significantly contribute to improving animal surveillance,” he said.

FCDC Coordinator for the Livestock Sector Strengthening Project II Programme, Dr Elim Limlim reiterated the Organization’s commitment to supporting the County Government in improving Livestock Development through improving Animal health.

“FCDC Programme implementation in the County will be based on effective reports generated by the department hence the need to improve on timely reporting and collaboration,” he noted.
