The Turkana County Government has assured students that bursary and scholarship funds for the January 2025 school term will be disbursed within the next two weeks, ensuring timely financial support for beneficiaries.
The County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Sports, and Social Protection, Wiljustus Lopeyok, confirmed the commitment, urging school heads not to send students back home over fees.
The CECM spoke during an inspection visit to the Lodwar Vocational Training Centre.
Adding that the Bursary and Scholarship Fund was a flagship initiative of Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai Napotikan, aimed at supporting bright but financially disadvantaged students, CECM Lopeyok reiterated that the county government was working around the clock to process payments and ensure students remain in school.
Accompanied by the Chief Officer for Sports and Vocational Training, Leah Losiru, the Director of Vocational Training Stephen Eregae, and Deputy Director Jeremiah Loyapat, the CECM encouraged vocational institutions to hold annual graduation ceremonies to enhance their visibility and promote skills development.
The bursary allocations cater to students at all levels, from primary and secondary schools to universities and vocational training centers, ensuring a comprehensive support system for education in Turkana.
