Turkana has today concluded the Medical Laboratory Week, with a blood donation drive at Lodwar County and Referral Hospital as the climax event.
The event brought together laboratory healthcare stakeholders in a vibrant celebration that recognized the critical role of medical laboratory professionals in healthcare delivery.
The event highlighted the success of the blood donation drive conducted throughout the week across the county, noting a significant response from residents who have turned up to donate blood in support of patients in need.
The initiative, held under the theme “To Infinity and Beyond for Our Patients,” emphasized commitment to going above and beyond in ensuring quality healthcare services, particularly in strengthening blood transfusion systems.
This week, the diagnostic team offered a number of services and achieved the following including; 191 pints of blood drawn across the county from volunteers, 164 screened for Hepatitis, 301 for blood sugar, 205 for Haemoglobin, and 116 for blood group among others.
The ongoing campaign is to rally and boost county’s blood bank as it is essential for emergency care, maternal health, and the treatment of various medical conditions.
County Medical Laboratory Coordinator, Alice Nataba also acknowledged the support of key partners including Kenya National Union of Medical Laboratory Officers (KNUMLO), Namo Hospital. Tumaini Clinic, Lodwar Hills Hospital, whose collaboration contributed to the success of the week-long activities.
“Laboratories continue to play a pivotal role in healthcare delivery by providing reliable and timely diagnostic services,” she said adding that “with continued investment and support, the laboratory team is well-positioned to meet the growing healthcare needs of the region,”
Residents are encouraged to continue embracing voluntary blood donation as a civic responsibility that directly contributes to saving lives.
