County Government, GIZ reaffirms commitment to governance reforms

The County Secretary, Dr. Amb. Richard Ekai, hosted a delegation from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on a courtesy call to the County Government to discuss ongoing collaboration aimed at strengthening governance, public financial management, and institutional capacity.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the GIZ team and county officials to deliberate on areas of mutual interest, review progress made under existing partnerships, and explore strategies for enhancing service delivery through strengthened public sector systems.

Discussions focused on promoting accountability, improving financial management practices, and building the capacity of county institutions to effectively implement development programmes.

Speaking during the engagement, the Economic Advisor to the Governor, Emmanuel Imana, acknowledged the valuable support GIZ provides in strengthening county systems and enhancing technical capacity.

He emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration between development partners and the County Government in advancing good governance and improving service delivery to residents.

The County Secretary welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to fostering strong partnerships that contribute to effective governance and sustainable development.

He noted that collaboration with development partners remains critical in supporting reforms and strengthening institutional performance across county departments.

The GIZ delegation comprised Dr. Tansley Kaunyangi, an officer from the Office of the Auditor-General supporting Turkana County; Dr. Kennedy Panya, Procurement Expert; FCPA Paul Otsola, Public Financial Management (PFM) Expert; and Joan Kadamu, PFM Advisor under the GIZ Good Governance Programme.

Peterson Erus, Assistant Director of Administration in the Office of the Governor was also present.
