Turkana County has enhanced the capacity of officers from different departments through a three-day County-Based GIS Champions Training under the EU-FAO funded Digital Land Governance Programme (DGP).
The training, conducted in partnership with the Council of Governors and FAO, equipped participants with practical skills in using GIS dashboards and interacting with geospatial softwares to support data management, planning and evidence-based decision-making.
The interactive training provided participants with an opportunity to gain hands-on knowledge while sharing experiences on the application of GIS in their respective departments.
Participants also shared recommendations on the sustainability and effective adoption of the GIS platform, including the need for compatibility between different GIS software and Mobile app systems.
The programme further supports the rollout of the Web-Based GIS-Enabled County Open Data Portal, which seeks to promote data sharing and interoperability across County departments while strengthening planning, policy formulation and service delivery.
The initiative underscores Turkana County’s commitment to leveraging digital technologies and geospatial data to improve coordination, planning and development outcomes.
