Lodwar Municipality has reached out to the private sector in Lodwar to enhance workplace conditions to prevent conflicts and improve employee welfare.
The Deputy Manager, Simon Nan’giro, noted that the municipality had received numerous complaints from several workers regarding poor workplace environments.
“We have had to intervene in several cases involving salary delays, harassment, and the non-remittance of statutory deductions,” Nan’giro said.
The Deputy Manager added that the Municipality management was already working with the residents to ensure delivery of critical services such as improved road networks, waste management, security lights, and water. He called upon the local businesses to play their part in ensuring that employees were well taken care of.
“We urge employers to comply with these basic obligations, which are not just ethical but legal requirements,” Nan’giro added.
Nan’giro called on both employers and employees to collaborate in cultivating clean and safe environments for all.
The municipality is also mandated to engage residents in their planning on a quarterly basis in a bid to promote inclusive development.
