Lokichar, 20th November 2022 (Governor’s Press Service)– Governor Jeremiah Lomurukai today joined the Catholic faithful in Lokichar parish to celebrate the Sunday homily for the Christ the king feast.
The celebration is an important day in the Catholic Church calendar, marking the end of a liturgical year. The service was presided over by the Lodwar Diocese Bishop John Mbinda. Bishop Mbinda in his teachings called on Christians at Lokichar to be prayerful and be peace champions so that the rest of the parishes in Turkana can emulate them. He lauded the leadership for taking lead in supporting church development.
In his remarks, Governor Lomorukai asked the church to continue praying for the county and all elected leaders so that they can provide decisive leadership that will be impactful to Wananchi.
The Governor who also led a funds drive to raise money for the development of the parish took the opportunity to thank the church and people of Lokichar for trusting his leadership by voting for them during the August elections.
He stated that his administration will be action-oriented and stated that the Turkana leadership had agreed to work with the National Government to root out banditry that has become a thorn in the flesh for residents in parts of Turkana South and Turkana East Sub-Counties.
The County boss assured that his Peace Building agenda was on course, and said he had reached over to his counterparts in Baringo and West Pokot over the need to preach peace along the county’s border. He revealed he is planning to travel to Turkana North to coordinate county emergency response.
Elected leaders who spoke include Turkana South legislator Dr Ariko Namoit and MCAs; Samwel Lomodo (Lokichar), Linus Echeme (Kalapata) and William Etubon (Katilu).
Senior County Government officials accompanying the Governor include County Executives David Erukudi (Agriculture, Pastoral Economy and Fisheries) and Peter Akono (Lands, Housing and Urban Areas Management).
