GOVERNOR LOMORUKAI LEADS RELIEF FOOD DISTRIBUTION IN KALOBEYEI

Kalobeyei, 18th December 2022 (Governor’s Press Service)– Residents of Kalobeyei Ward today benefited from county relief food following distribution exercise led by Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai.

The Governor coordinated relief distribution to households in Natiira, Kalobeyei and Lomunyena Kirionok, in the company of MCAs from the region and a number of County Executives.

He informed residents of progress made by the County Government in different priority areas, including cross border peace, improving access to quality healthcare, water supply and drought responses to support households affected by the drought.

He reiterated his commitment to the pursuit for unity amongst elected leaders and pledged to continue working with MCAs to serve residents of Turkana.

“We have invested resources and effort to improve cross-border peace engagements and that was witnessed recently when security agencies in Uganda, through a show of respect, recovered over 400 livestock stolen from our pastoralists.

“I love peace and unity, I love making friendship and working with all leaders regardless of their party affiliations. We want to unite all residents of Turkana away from the different political parties which are just vehicles used in political campaigns,” the Governor said.

The Governor had earlier in the day attended Sunday mass at the St. Benedict Kalobeyei Parish and a funds drive to support development projects in the church. He assured the church’s leadership of his readiness to support projects in the church and the gospel mission.

He pledged to continue visiting different regions of the county to distribute relief food and coordinate implementation of County Government programmes. The County Chief promised to spread development programmes across the county.

MCAs who accompanied the Governor urged the county boss to work with Members of Parliament to address concern over limited number of teachers slots allocated to the county,  in the ongoing recruitment exercise by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

The MCAs Julius Edung (Kalobeyei), Lawrence Lopayo (Lokiriama/Lorengippi) and Eliud Emoni (Kakuma) said the county had many trained teachers who were yet to be employed.

The leaders echoed the Governor’s call for unity and stated that the County Assembly had agreed to work with the Governor on a bipartisan basis, and will support him to deliver his agenda for Turkana.

The county boss was accompanied by County Executives James Wangiros (Public Service, Administration and Disaster Management), Dr Michael Eregae (Finance and Economic Planning), Dr. Anthony Apalia (Health and Sanitation), Leah Audan (Education, Sports and Social Protection), Elizabeth Loote (Trade, Enterprise Development, Cooperatives, Youth and Gender Affairs) and Peter Akono (Lands and Physical Planning).

Other senior County officials present were Chief of Staff Peter Yoromoe, Ag. Chief Officers Chris Locheria (Public Service) and Stephen Eregae (Education). Staff from Turkana West present were led by Sub-County Administrator Dr. Joshua Napoco.
