GOVERNOR LOMORUKAI PROMISES SUPPORT FOR TURKANA BORDERLAND COMMUNITIES

Nadapal, 25th January 2023— (Governor’s Press Service) Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai has promised to support residents of Turkana living along the borderlands to develop the region and improve service delivery.

Speaking in Nadapal near the border with South Sudan, the Governor stated that he understands the challenges faced by pastoralists in the area, including insecurity, and has pledged to work with elected leaders to address these issues and improve services such as water and healthcare.

“In the time I will be Governor, I promise to support you. I understand the challenges you face along the border and have listened to your challenges. We will work with all the elected leaders to address challenges faced by pastoralists including insecurity and improve service delivery on water, health among others,” he said.

The Governor also revealed that Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof Kithure Kindiki had planned to visit the area to engage with security forces deployed to the border post but had to cancel the trip due to unforeseen commitments.

He informed residents that in a recent meeting with President William Ruto, Turkana leaders presented development priorities for the region and raised concerns about the need for a border post in Nadapal, road construction between Nadapal- Nakodok, and border demarcation and delimitation.

Governor Lomorukai announced that the County Government had dispatched relief food for National Police Reservists in the area and promised that food for residents affected by drought would be distributed immediately after delivery. He also assured residents that food rations had been increased to last beneficiaries for a longer time.

The Governor also directed the Ministry of Infrastructure to begin road construction in areas identified by residents and the Ministry of Water Services to truck water to residents of Nadapal.

He promised that the county will in the next financial year roll-out projects, including a resettlement scheme in the area, water supply and other services to support the settlement.

The Governor was accompanied by MCAs Simon Naoyakope (Kibish), Francis Ngimusia (Letea), Patrick Napion (Kaeris), Vincent Ekipor (Lokichoggio), and Eliud Emoni (Kakuma) among others.

Senior County Government present were County Executive for Infrastructure, Transport and Public Works Patrick Losike and Turkana West Sub County Administrator Dr Joshua Napoco.
