Turkana Council of Elders Leadership met the County Executive Committee for Tourism, Culture, Climate Change, Environment, Energy & Mining and Natural Resources, Iris Mariao to plan with the County Department on plans to conduct the elections of new office bearers during the Annual General Meeting (AGM).

In his remarks, CECM Mariao said that for effective elections of the Council, the Directorates of Culture and Heritage would be involved in planning and supporting the affairs of the Council for their technical know-how on matters culture.

“We will endeavor to support the activities of the Council in ensuring it delivers its mandate”. Hon. Mariao stated.

He added that Council’s Leadership should be conversant with the constitution and be guided accordingly in their undertakings.

He promised to set up functional networking mechanisms that enable partnerships for knowledge sharing and resource mobilization.

The Elder’s Leadership sufficiently informed the CECM of its intention to hold grassroot elections on 18th March across the sub counties while thereafter hold at the County level on 25th March 2023.

Ag. Director for Culture Philip Lokaala pointed out that when new leadership will be elected in office, his directorate will organize for exposure visit outside the county for learning and knowledge sharing on best practices.
