County cushions Illimanyang Community against the effects of the current drought

The Directorate of Social Protection has embarked on the distribution of special food items to the Illimanyang community in a bid to cushion them from the harsh drought condition that occasioned to the loss of many animal herds; a prime source of their livelihood.

The aid benefited a 100 households from an allocation of Ksh. 1 million appropriated by the County Assembly in the 1st supplementary budget of 2023.

The affected households hail from  Kapua, Nasiger, Kalokol, Kalotum and Lodwar.

The distribution has been concluded today in Lodwar town covering Loyo and Sandfields villages.

Out of the 22 Households in Lodwar, each household received a bale of Hodari, a bale of wheat flour, a bale of Uji mix, a bucket of Omo, a box of soap, a dozen of salt, half a bag of beans, half bag of sugar, 10ltrs of vegetable cooking oil,  a bag of rice inclusive of other items.

The Illimanyang community is characterised by flimsy dental formula and hence cannot consume hard stuff thereby warranting the provision of tender food items.

The supplied items are anticipated to sustain the beneficiaries within a substantial period with optimism that the situation will get better soon.

The Illimanyang community is grateful to the County’s Administration for being mindful of their plight.

The County Staff present  during the food distribution exercise were; Idoka Hebrews Ignatius(Ag Director, social protection), Amos Ariong (Asst Director, social protection in charge of disability services), Marangach Alex (Sub-county Social Protection officer for Turkana Central), Esther Tokusi(Social welfare officer supporting Persons with disabilities support programs ) and Nancy Ebulon, Illimanyang community representative.
