GOVERNOR LOMORUKAI IN NIGERIA FOR THE PAN AFRICAN SCRABBLE COMPETITION

Lagos, 25th August 2023 (Governor’s Press Service) — Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai is in Lagos, Nigeria, to take part in a Scrabble competition courtesy of the Pan Africa Scrabble Association (PANASA). The Governor is leading the Kenyan delegation which includes participants and the game’s officials.

The inaugural PANASA President’s Cup, jointly organized by the Dr. Winfred Awosika Foundation and the Africa Youth Scrabble Championship (AYSC), has attracted wordsmiths from 13 other African countries and the United States.

The Governor is attending the competition on invitation from PANASA President Adekoyejo Adegbesan, who received the delegation on arrival in Lagos on Tuesday.

The games, the most extensive continental Scrabble competition, are being held concurrently with the Dr. Winifred Awosika Foundation African Youth Scrabble Championship (AYSC).

AYSC seeks to grow Scrabble among the youth and promote it as a viable sport at the local and international levels.

Governor Napotikan officially launched the President’s Cup at Orchid Hotel in Lagos, which kicked off yesterday and is set to end on Monday. Participants are competing for various awards including cash prizes.

The Governor is accompanied by County Executive for Roads Patrick Losike and Chief Officer for Sports and Vocational Training Robert Loyelei.

The winners will be awarded at the end of the event during a gala night, in which the Governor will be the Chief Guest.

On arrival in Lagos, the Governor led the delegation on a visit to His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, Abisogun II, the Oniru of Iru Kingdom. The King and Governor Lomorukai discussed areas of collaboration with Turkana County and how to grow the game further in Kenya and the county.

On Wednesday they paid a courtesy call to High Chief Dr. Mrs Winifred Awosika, the proprietor of Chrisland Schools, hosting the Youth Tournament.

The Chairperson of the Kenyan Association of Scrabble Arch. Limo Kipkemoi is also part of the Kenyan delegation in Nigeria.
