STAKEHOLDERS MEET TO PLAN INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY IN TURKANA

The County Chief Officer for the Office of the Governor Paul Lodunga, today chaired a meeting to plan for the International Peace Day in Turkana County.
The meeting was attended by representatives of peace actors, including the DRC, USAID-NAWIRI, ACME, APaDs, SAPCONE, LOKADO, and IPDR.
Lodunga expressed the county government’s commitment to working with peace actors to realize peaceful coexistence across the divide.
He said that the county government is committed to collaborating with partners to ensure that the fruit of peace is realized.
The peace actors welcomed the idea of celebrating International Peace Day and agreed to pool their resources together to make the event a success.
They also discussed the need to champion a resource-sharing agreement for cross-border peaceful co-existence
The forum resolved that International Peace Day will be celebrated in two corridors in Turkana County: Kakuma Refugee Camp in Turkana West and Lokiriama in Loima.
The DRC agreed to bring children from various schools to participate in the commemoration.
