THE COUNTY PLANS A CENSUS OF ENERGY INSTALLATIONS

The County Government of Turkana plans to undertake a count of all energy installations in a move seen to create a unified database for sourcing information.
“The envisioned count will lead to the creation of a database accounting for solar power, the electricity grid, and all other alternatives used by institutions and individual households in Turkana.” Chief Maraka said.
Speaking during a stakeholder’s forum at Lodwar, Chief Maraka divulged that the census will be jointly undertaken with sector stakeholders, including state and non-state actors, and academic institutions, for a more inclusive outcome.
Noting that the lack of a database hindered meaningful investment in the sector and the tracking of growth, the CCO welcomed investments in the exercise and called upon all players to participate in it.
“The Count will also create data to direct investment and initiate organized resource mobilization interventions,” he said.
The Count is expected to make a significant contribution to the Governor’s agenda on livelihood improvement and the provision of clean and affordable energy to the residents of Turkana.
The Chair of the County Assembly Select Committee on Energy and Mining Patrick Esekon, Professor Mengich, (principal, Turkana UniversityCollege) and Emase Lopetet (Ag. Director Energy),
echoed their support for the census.
