DHL COURIER SERVICES OPENS SHOP AT KALOKOL TO PROMOTE BLUE ECONOMY SECTOR

The world-renowned courier services provider DHL has opened its first-ever station at Kalokol in Turkana.
The move is expected to create a platform in which fish and products from Lake Turkana reach the international market without the interference of middlemen who usually exploit the fishermen.
Deputy Governor Dr John Erus presided over the opening of the DHL Kalokol branch and said the move would incentivize organized fishing and trade among players in the sector in Kalokol and all the fishing sites in Turkana.
He lauded the internationally acclaimed services provider for investing up to USD 500,000 to provide fishermen with free packaging, moisture analysis, and branding services for their products.
While reiterating Governor Lomorukai’s agenda on the use of natural resources for wealth creation, DG Erus said that the County would continue strategic partnerships with the DHL.
On his part, the Managing Director of DHL Kenya Paul Makolosi, said that the installation was climate-smart and fully equipped to undertake packaging services to international standards.
MD Makolosi added that the services were currently being offered at a subsidized rate as the customer was only expected to pay shipment fees.
He also divulged that DHL was working with the local fisheries Department to ensure adherence to the desired quality standards.
The DHL boss confirmed that the station was open for shipment of a wide range of products locally and internationally.
