Turkana County Government and UNICEF have agreed to strengthen the existing partnership on service provision in the early childhood education sector.
Speaking today after hosting the UNICEF team in his office, the Chief Officer for Education and Social Protection, Moses Korea, said that the partnership was on the basis of Ksh 11M support offered by UNICEF to strengthen ECDE systems.
He recounted ECDE teacher employment, construction, equipping of ECD centers, and the digitization of ECD information management systems, as a show of commitment by the County Government to support the ECD Sector.
Chief Korea informed the team that the Education Department was also reviewing the legal framework for child protection in order to maximize benefits to young learners.
On his part, Ezekiel Kulal the Director for ECD noted the support from UNICEF towards the integration of refugee children into the County’s ECD system.
The UNICEF team was led by Carolin Waldcher and accompanied by Deema Jarrar (Kenya Country Office), Klosgani Taulo (UNICEF Advisor on Education), and Sammy Loitakol of Teachers Service Commission, Turkana Office.
