KAPESE COMMUNITY IN TURKANA SOUTH, ELECTS COMMITTEE TO MANAGE LAND

Kapese Community in Lokichar Ward, Turkana South has elected up to 15 officials, who will primarily manage matters of land management.
The 15 members of the Community Land Management Committee included Paule Enock (Chair), Peter Eregae (V/char), Titus Ekai (Secretary), and Catherine Eregae (Treasurer), while the rest were members.
After the elections, the County Government with support from the Agency for Turkana Development Initiative (ATUDIS) and Kenya Oil and Gas Working Group, inducted the Committee for a week.
The induction was on the roles of CLMC in the management of Kapese community land affairs.
The County Director for Land Survey, Joseph Egiron urged the Paule-led Committee to work up to Wednesday 18 October 2023, to present the register to the registrar together with Kapese Community by-laws
The Adjudication Officer, Vincent Agevi, informed the CLMC members that once the Community Land Form 3 (CL3) by-laws and Community Register are submitted to the Community Land Registrar, Edwin Wafula, who will in turn, issue a Certificate of Registration to Kapese Community. And Adjudication Officer will issue a 60-day notice for any claim before the survey of the Kapese Community Registration Unit commences.
The National Land Commission Officer in the County, Galgalo Bora was also involved in the exercise.
This follows an election notice from the State Department for Lands and Physical Planning, dated on 26th September 2023, issued to interim chairpersons of Kapese, Loperot, Nakukulas, Lotubae, and Lomunyenkupurat communities, to elect their Community Land Management Committee, who will oversee and fast track registration and issuance of title deeds.
