GOVERNOR LOMORUKAI PLEGDES TO END WATER CHALLENGES IN KALOKOL

Kalokol, 20th October 2023 (Governor’s Press Services)

Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai has promised that his administration is committed to ending longstanding water challenges in Kalokol.

Speaking when he presided over Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kalokol today, the Governor announced that Sh40 million had been allocated by the County Government for a water project in the area.

“As part of my agenda on water, we are committed to solving the water shortage issue in Kalokol. We have set aside Sh40 million in the county budget to ensure that the water challenges in the area become a thing of the past,” he stated.

Governor Lomorukai also disclosed that the region will benefit from a Sh20 million project implemented by the Northrift Water Works Authority. This project will extend the water pipeline from Eliye to Kalokol.

Turkana Central MP, Emathe Namuar, urged the Governor to follow up on the allocation of the equalisation fund, which was to fund a number of projects in Turkana including the Eliye-Kalokol water project. He emphasized the need for improved governance in the area to manage the forthcoming water systems effectively.

Governor Lomorukai highlighted that his administration has increased the budget allocation for development from 28% to 44.3% to tackle the challenges faced by residents. He added that the county will continue to distribute resources equitably across Turkana.

He also reassured the fishing community in Lake Turkana that the lake is open for fishing. However, he vowed to crack down on unscrupulous businessmen who take advantage of the residents by offering low fish prices. He emphasized the need for fair discussions to ensure that both the fishermen and the county benefit.

The county boss reiterated Turkana leaders’ commitment to collaborate with President William Ruto for the betterment of the region. He also promised to serve all Turkana residents without division along party lines.

Deputy Governor Dr. John Erus urged leaders to use existing structures to resolve conflicts that threaten the county’s unity.

County Commissioner Jacob Ouma cautioned against the misuse of National Police Reservists and warned that action would be taken against officers found culpable.

Woman Representative Cecilia Ng’itit and MP Namuar called for respect for Turkana leaders and unity in the county to allow elected officials to collectively address the development needs of residents.

Speaker of the County Assembly, Christopher Nakuleu, expressed support for the Governor’s development agenda and commitment to invest public resources in resolving challenges faced by residents.

The event was attended by several senior county staff, including Deputy County Secretary Joseph Nyang’a, County Executives Patrick Losike (Roads), James Wangiros (Public Service), David Erukudi (Agriculture), Leah Audan (Education), Iris Mariao (Tourism), Peter Akono (Lands), and Dr. Anthony Apalia (Health), among others.
