The County Executive Committee Member for Education, Sports, and Social Protection, Leah Audan has flagged off a team to represent the County at the Desert Wheelchair competition in Isiolo set to kick off on 2nd November 2023.
The 15-member team will battle it out with contestants from more than 20 counties across Kenya in a competition they have won both team and individual accolades in the past three editions.
CECM Audan said that the competition was for persons with disabilities and that the County’s involvement was a show of commitment towards the empowerment and exposure of such persons to nurture their talents.
“I am very optimistic that the eventual winner at individual and team level will return to Turkana as we have been used to in the last three editions. This trophy is coming back home,” CECM said as she flagged off the team.
She reiterated the support received from the Governor towards sports. CECM said that the Governor was leading from the front, by creating an enabling environment for persons with disabilities to thrive in sports and other life ventures.
On his part, the Chief Officer for Education and Social Protection Moses Korea congratulated the team for its readiness to participate in the competition.
He advised them to emulate the past teams who displayed resilience and determination to win the competition with a lot of ease.
Chief Officer Korea reminded the team that the organizers of the competition and the County Government of Isiolo have raised the profile of the games to provide an entry point to much higher levels such as regional competitions and Paralympics.
