AGRIFOOD MSMES BENEFIT FROM CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT EQUIVALENT LAUNCH

The County Government, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), distributed technical equipment to Medium and Small and Micro- Enterprises (MSMEs).
The 15 MSMEs received the equipment meant to support and boost their productivity in their various enterprises during a Capacity Development Equivalent Launch Event.
County Chief Officer for Livestock Development Dr. Ezekiel Etelej who represented the Agriculture County Executive Dr. Anthony Apalia, acknowledged the efforts of FAO as a partner saying its collaboration with the County Government aligned with the Governor’s agenda on strategic partnership.
The collaboration, he said, would aid food security and livestock development in Turkana.
On her part, Chief Officer for Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Janerose Tioko urged the farmers to put the equipment to good use to achieve the desired goal.
The Director for Agriculture, Aaron Nanok, said building the capacity of farmers with the knowledge and skills on the proper use of the equipment was required.
Deputy Director Livestock Marketing, Ernest Anzeze, pointed out the Directorate’s goal was to regulate the quality of livestock service input.
Therefore, he encouraged partners to teamwork across all livelihood projects.
FAO Turkana Cluster Coordinator, Ambrose Ngetich, expressed their commitment to continue partnering with the County Government to identify gaps in capacity building for the beneficiaries to grow their business.
MSMEs that benefited are Kalobeyei Animal Feeds Producers, Umoja Dryers Self Help Group (Kalobeyei), Mount Zion Farm Inputs and Suppliers, Poultry Good Ltd (Lodwar), Katilu Farmers Cooperative, Choro Farm Cooperative, Vision Group, Akumae Enterprises, Rift Cafeteria and Pastry, Mama Rukia Fish Point, Kolioro Irrigation Cooperative, Kangalita Irrigation Cooperative, Computer Poshomill and Kazana Bakery.
Also in attendance were FAO’s National Project Leader Elizabeth Kamau, Agile Consulting Programme Administrator Doris Gakii, and department staff based in Lodwar
