DG ERUS PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR FRENCH DEVELOPMENT AGENCY, GREEN MINI -GRID PROGRAM

A delegation from the French Development Agency (AFD) met the Deputy Governor Dr John Erus in his office, to discuss the progress of the Green Mini-Grid Program (GMG) in Kenya.
The Regional Director, of AFD, Helene Ngarnim, led the team in presenting updates on the GMG; a project funded by Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO ) and EU AITF aimed at developing 80 mini-grids across six counties in Kenya, set to conclude by March 31, 2024.
During the meeting, GMG highlighted that the project has supported various project developers, including Renewvia and KUDURA Power East Africa, in establishing sites in Turkana.
However, it was revealed that the project encountered a challenge with land issues, leading to a constrained timeline in utilizing allocated funds.
Dr Erus assured the delegation of the county’s commitment to resolving the land issue promptly.
He emphasized the Government’s dedication to collaborating with partners to uplift people’s lives. And he acknowledged the pivotal role of the French Development Agency.
The meeting was attended by DCS Joseph Nyang’a, DCS Albert Gamoe, Chief Officer, Lands Leah Losiru; Chief Officer, Energy and Mining, Triza Amoni, and representatives from the French Development Agency.
