GOVERNOR LOMORUKAI LEADS JAMHURI DAY CELEBRATIONS IN LODWAR, DECEMBER 12, 2023 (Governor’s Press Service)

Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai led the county in commemorating the 60th anniversary of Jamhuri Day at Moi Gardens Grounds in Lodwar today.
Accompanied by First Lady Lillian Komudei Ekamais, Governor Lomorukai reaffirmed his commitment to collaboration with all leaders, highlited his administration’s focus on key sectors such as Water, Health, Education, and Food Security.
Addressing relief food concerns, Governor Lomorukai announced that the Government had awarded suppliers who were expected to deliver the foodstuffs before Christmas. He announced that the county had allocated Ksh 551 million in the current fiscal year for emergency relief.
Expressing concern over some leaders in Turkana South fueling inter-clan wars, Governor Lomorukai urged the County Commissioner to ensure the arrest of attackers and dismissed allegations of embezzlement of County Government funds.
Governor Lomorukai also cautioned police officers in Lodwar against harassment, extortion, and unlawful detentions, stating that the Turkana Leadership would not tolerate such actions.
Governor Lomorukai used the opportunity to acknowledge Emmanuel Loroo Esekon, who received recognition and an award at the finals of the Presidential Innovation Challenge Award 2023. Loroo invented an eco-friendly alternative to traditional stools using climate-smart techniques.
Deputy Governor Dr. John Erus urged youths to observe road regulations to prevent accidents leading to avoidable deaths.
County Commissioner Jacob Ouma assured residents of safety during the festive season and warned youths involved in criminal activities that security forces were on high alert.
Turkana Central MP Emathe Namuar expressed concern over youth drug abuse, while Woman Representative Cecilia Ishuu urged the National Government to release funds for student bursaries.
Members of the County Assembly, led by Township Ward MCA Ruth Kuya, pledged support for the implementation of the County Government’s development agenda.
Senior County Government officials in attendance included Deputy County Secretary Joseph Nyang’a, County Executives Dr. Michael Eregae (Finance), Leah Audan (Education), Faith Aletea (Water Services), several Chief Officers, and Directors.
