14TH JANUARY 2024 (GOVERNOR’S PRESS SERVICE)

Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai has vowed to continue with his agenda of uniting leaders and residents of Turkana irrespective of their political affiliations.
Speaking yesterday in Loperot, Kalapata, Governor Lomorukai emphasized the importance of peace, urging residents to work together and abandon the toxic party politics.
The Governor led a team of leaders and senior County Government officials in a restocking exercise targeting residents who lost their livestock following a banditry attack in the area last year.
“I pledged during the campaigns to take the lead in uniting leaders of all backgrounds because Turkana belongs to all of us. Division hampers development,” said the Governor.
In the exercise, Governor Lomorukai handed over 500 goats to be distributed to the affected families.
The Governor assured residents that ongoing relief distribution will benefit all regions of the county affected by drought and promised that the County Government will undertake a restocking drive to restore the livelihoods of victims of last year’s livestock theft.
The County boss also supported 30 students from the area joining Form One with Sh10,000 each to help in the purchase of school requirements.
He firmly stated his opposition to divisive politics and affirmed his administration’s commitment to working with President William Ruto, who was duly elected and declared president. Governor Lomorukai assured of equitable resource distribution regardless of residents’ political allegiances in the previous general election.
Lokichar MCA Samwel Lomodo advocated for the recruitment of additional National Police Reservists (NPR) while his Kalapata counterpart Linus Echeme urged the security forces in the county to apprehend criminals causing unrest in the region.
Senior County Government officials present included County Executives David Erukudi (Trade) and Peter Akono (Lands), Chief Officers Derrick Epae (Administration and Disaster Management), James Illikwel (Finance), John Korikel (Sports and Vocational Training) and David Maraka (Water Services) among others.
Also present were a host of professionals from Turkana South.
