Engineers and technical staff of the County Government Directorate for Roads are currently undertaking an inspection of the Napak Hill road to determine the quality of service rendered by the contractor in charge of the upgrade.
The Napak Hill road is an important route that connects Kenya and Ethiopia at the Kibish border point. Interventions on the road are therefore expected to elevate international trade by easing transportation of goods and services between the two countries.
Led by Engineer Mark Achilla, Chief Officer, Roads and Transport, the team assessed the completed works including the road surface, constructed rigid pavements, the twin piped culverts, and two drifts.
Engineer Achilla said that the inspection team was guided by the contract Bills of Quantities document that had been issued to the contractor. He explained that the 500-meter stretch, the section targeted for repair interventions was challenging to navigate given the hills.
While acknowledging the need for improvement of some inspected areas, the Chief Officer called on the contractors to fast-track the repairs before the county completed its part of the bargain.
Directors Kopeto Ignatius (Public Works), Simon Nakucho (Roads), and Joshua Napoco (Administration) were present. The accounts and procurement teams were also present.
