The County Department of Agriculture has evaluated the AIC Health Ministries’ Turkana 4 Resilience projects aimed at enhancing livelihoods in the Lokichoggio Sub-county.
The projects are Nasinyono farm (286 acres), Nakinae Akiyar farm (200 acres) Agis NIA farm in Nanam (300 acres), 30,000m3 water pan, 13.5 acres Aloe Vera site in Nanam, and 15.5 acres for pasture farming.
Speaking during an evaluation tour of the four resilience projects implemented by AIC Health Ministries (AICHM) in Lokichoggio Sub-County, Director for Agriculture Aaron Nanok said that the department intends to forge stronger partnerships to ensure the county’s food security.
“These projects showcase the potential of Turkana as a food hub and contribute to realizing the food security agenda,” he stated.
He further added that the department’s commitment to supporting farmers through services like extension programs and capacity building.
The Director also said the department would provide mechanized ploughing and plans were underway to also provide local drought-tolerant seeds for crop and pasture production for sustainability.
AICHM Project Coordinator, Sammy Loyelei, appreciated the County Government’s support and proposed further collaboration to explore water harvesting structures for farming, as well as implementing drip irrigation practices for sustainable agriculture.
Turkana 4 Resilience project is a Humanitarian and Development project to build the resilience of vulnerable communities affected by drought. Its components include livelihood, child protection, and health.
