Three primary schools in Turkana North and Kibish sub-counties are set to benefit from solar power to be implemented by the County Government, through the Department of Energy, Petroleum, and Mineral Resources.
Speaking during the handing over of the three sites to the contractor to undertake the project, Deputy Director of Energy Geoffrey Eregae, said that the project also includes solar installation for street lighting at Lokitaung, a major commercial and transit town in the Northern region.
“These installations are expected to commence immediately as the projects are part of the 2023-2024 budget,” Director Eregae said.
The lighting will spur the academic performance of the schools and further boost the commercial potential of Lokitaung in the region.
The Director assured the community of the strict supervision of the contractor to ensure the completion of the project within the set cost and timeframes.
As a mark of the handover, the Director issued the contractor with copies of bills of quantities and project notes in the presence of the would-be project beneficiaries.
Engineering assistant Samuel Ebei, local administration, and community leaders witnessed the handover at respective sites.
