Following the successful sensitization of health stakeholders on Universal Health Coverage Acts, the County Department of Health and Sanitation has commenced drafting a Turkana Health Services Improvement Financing Bill and Regulations.
The law aims to allow facilities to directly receive funds and spend on operational costs. This will ensure the efficient running of facilities thus providing better healthcare services.
The activity, which brought together senior members of the County Health Management Team, County Assembly members, and partner representatives, was guided by the County Legal team.
The exercise was also part of the inception meeting for Path Kenya, a sub-recipient USAID Uongozi wa Afya Thabiti (USAID-UAT), which tasked with supporting policy development targeting all sub-counties.
The participants, which include Ekai Nabenyo – Director of Legal Services, shared ideas, experiences and suggestions that will address the implementation of policy to achieve various objectives in the health sector.
The Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Acts include Primary Health Care Act, Digital Health Act, Facility Improvement Financing Act and Social Health Insurance Act.
USAID-UAT is an Amref Health in Africa Kenya project. It is a five-year project that seeks to strengthen the county health systems through governance, accountability, policy and strategic partnerships.
