RESIDENTS CALL FOR FREE INTERNET, IMPROVED SERVICES DURING LODWAR MUNICIPALITY CITIZEN’S FORUM

Lodwar, March 15, 2024 (Public Communications and Media Relations)

Residents of Lodwar have demanded the installation of free internet access infrastructure and better service delivery from the Lodwar Municipality administration.

Speaking at the Citizens Engagement Forum held over two days at the Lodwar Township Ward Administrator’s office and the Turkana Central Sub County Administrator’s office, residents expressed their concerns and suggestions.

“The municipal administration should provide free internet access by establishing hotspots in selected locations in Lodwar. Internet access will elevate the profile of Lodwar as a progressive town,” said Francis Ewoi, a resident of the Township area.

Ewoi also called for transparency regarding town beautification plans, the creation of recreational parks, and garbage collection efforts.

In addition to these requests, residents proposed the completion of Kanamkemer Market, the establishment of additional markets, noise pollution control, and improved water access.

Lodwar Municipality manager Benjamin Tukei acknowledged the concerns, stating, “The Municipality Management will analyze all the feedback to develop evidence-informed solutions.”

Chair of the Lodwar Municipality Board, Christine Tatoi, emphasized the importance of community engagement in achieving positive outcomes. She mentioned the option for online submission of views for residents unable to attend the forum in person.

The forum, held on March 14th and 15th, marks the conclusion of quarter three of the 2023–2024 reporting year, with similar engagements held for the previous quarters.
