TURKANA ANNUAL PEACE ACTORS FORUM CONCLUDES WITH PLEDGE TO UNIFY PEACE EFFORTS

The county-led forum, which brought together both state and non-state entities, has evaluated past interventions and charted a path toward enhancing peace and security in Turkana.
Supported by the International Organization for Peace Building (INTERPEACE), whose objective is to coordinate all actors working to promote peacebuilding in the county.
“As individuals, we must all do our part in supporting and participating in peacebuilding initiatives. Let us come together and work towards a brighter future, where peace prevails in our communities,” said Titus Lokorikeju, the Director for Peace and Reconciliation.

The director emphasised the importance of joint planning and execution of interventions. He stated that in pooling resources together it would enhance emergency response and improve reactions to early warnings of conflict escalation.

He highlighted the importance of unity and collaboration in achieving peace. His call for coordinated efforts, inclusion of all stakeholders, and effective use of resources echoed the sentiments of many others working towards peace in the region.

On the other part, Deputy County Commissioner for Turkana Central Fred Makundi expressed the National Government’s commitment to combating insecurity issues in Turkana South and Loima Sub-counties.

He stressed on the importance of involving local Administrators, elders, and communities to create effective homegrown peace solutions. He added that the National Government had beefed up security capacities in the most disturbed and dangerous crime zones along the Riverine.

The forum brought together participants from various sectors, including the national government’s administrative wing, representatives from non-governmental organizations, and civil society organizations.
