March 26, 2024 (Public Communication and Media Relations)

Health Representatives from Kenya, Lokichoggio Sub-county, and South Sudan’s Kapoeta State convened a meeting to discuss enhancing TB services at their respective cross-border facilities. The sustainability of the program dominated the inter-country collaboration meeting, supported by the IGAD Health and Social Development Division, the Ministry of Health Kenya, and the South Sudan Ministry of Health.

The meeting emphasized the need to strengthen referral systems between the two countries and reopen the Nadapal health facility. Additionally, there was a call to lobby national and county governments to allocate funds for cross-border TB activities and conduct partner mapping of organizations working with refugees for resource mobilization.

During the development of the joint work plan, the teams shared best practices in disease surveillance, utilization of community services, and active case-finding approaches with a particular focus on pastoralists along the borders.

Partner representatives from the International Rescue Committee and the Kenya Red Cross were also in attendance
