Officers from the County Government together with UONGOZI WA AFYA THABITI (UAT) met to review and enhance health policy frameworks, focusing on the development and engagement tracking of policies across the county.
This meeting was geared towards improving the management and funding of healthcare facilities for more effective and transparent service delivery.

During the two-day session, stakeholders have engaged in refining the Turkana County Facilities Improvement Bill 2024 to ensure it aligns with both local community needs and national health standards, under the guidance of County Solicitor Ruth Emanikor.
In his remarks, County Executives for Health and Sanitation, Dr. Iris Mariao, stated that the meeting was important in shaping the healthcare landscape in Turkana.
He expressed appreciation for the ongoing support from various partners in the policy development process.
“Strong leadership and governance are the backbones of effective policy implementation and management,” he emphasized.
Chief Officer for Medical Services Dr. Gilchrist Lokoel highlighted the significance of creating adaptable policies.
He said “As we refine the Facilities Improvement Bill, we are ensuring that our policies are responsive to the dynamic health needs of our community,” he commented. This legislative update is a critical step towards enhancing healthcare accessibility and quality in Turkana.”
County Solicitor, Ruth Emanikor, emphasized that the review of existing legal tools was a routine process aimed at ensuring compliance with the national laws and, the need to effectively address the dynamics of healthcare funding.
Present were Director (Public Health) Alfred Emanman, (Nursing Services) Alice Akalaptan, and Legal Advisor Jane Ebenyo, alongside representatives from UONGOZI WA AFYA THABITI—Mark Kolam, Celestine Gambo, and Clayton Opiyo.
