Lodwar, May 6, 2024 (Public Communications and Media Relations)

H.E. the Deputy Governor, Dr John Erus, hosted a field monitoring and evaluation team from USAID in his office at the county.

The purpose of their courtesy visit was to provide feedback on the progress of USAID-funded organisations/ projects; USAID Livestock Market Systems, World Food Programme, USAID STAWI, USAID NAWIRI, Concern Worldwide, Feed the Future, and USAID Kuza.

DG Erus highlighted the three-pillar agendas involving water, agriculture, pastoral economy, and education, which are crucial for revolutionizing socio-economic development in Turkana. He also stressed the importance of framework policies, set by the national and county governments for long-term visions, that should be used as a guide.

In attendance were the County Executive for Water Services, Patrick Losike, and Dr Ezekiel Ekuwam, County Chief Officer for Livestock Development. They raised concerns about the need for emergency response and the importance of directing resilience-building efforts after droughts and current floods.

The monitoring and evaluation activity aims to equip USAID field teams and stakeholders with information to make well-informed decisions regarding project effectiveness and resource efficiency while also identifying opportunities for further strategic collaboration.
