Turkana Chief Officer for Energy, Petroleum, and Mining, Triza Amoni, has urged partners in the energy sector to support the establishment of an energy centre in Turkana.
“The centre will be a shared facility for information sharing, incubation of ideas and models, piloting of new technologies, and innovation development,” Chief Officer Amoni said.
Speaking during a visit from the Netherlands Development Organisation (NDO), a player in the energy sector focusing on promoting the uptake of energy-efficient appliances for cooking, Chief Officer Amoni emphasised that the centre would also provide a safe space for energy professionals to hold meetings on matters related to energy production and consumption in Turkana.
While appreciating the development organisation for the courtesy call, Chief Officer Amoni requested that they play a leading role in assisting the county government to establish the centre.
The NDO Energy Access Advisor, John Njogu, informed the Chief Officer that the organisation aimed to explore avenues for further collaborations with the County Government in the energy sector.
Njogu highlighted their efforts in accelerating access to clean cooking energy for both households and institutions through a market-based approach, where clients are supplied with energy-saving appliances.
Njogu expressed the NDO’s readiness to work closely with the county government on providing advisory services and consumer education on clean cooking options available for improved livelihoods.
The meeting was also attended by Eng. Jackson Lojore, Director of Energy and Petroleum Production.
