COUNTY VETERINARY SERVICES AND CONCERN WORLDWIDE REVIEW LIVESTOCK VACCINATION EXERCISE

Lodwar – 20th May, 2024

The County Directorate of Veterinary Services and Concern Worldwide are conducting an audit of the mass livestock vaccination to assess progress and improve coverage.

This review will guide the County Government in operating its livestock vaccination program to achieve over 80% vaccination coverage and build herd immunity.

The review meeting aimed to identify the shortcomings of the exercise, suggest possible interventions and plan for the third phase of the livestock vaccination exercise.

The Deputy Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Erenious Nakadio, thanked Concern Worldwide for supporting the activity, noting that 380,994 livestock have been vaccinated and treated, benefiting 2,639 households in Turkana East Sub-County.

Dr. Nakadio also called for the involvement of more veterinary officers in the upcoming vaccination exercise, which he said will intensify the campaign and extend its reach to achieve the target.

Concern Worldwide Program Manager, Golicha Dima, stated that the review meeting will inform the third phase of mass vaccination.

“Concern Worldwide will support the County Government in achieving over 80% vaccination coverage by facilitating the third phase of the campaign before the end of the project,” he said.

He also emphasized the importance of advanced mobilization and sensitization of the community in preparation for the third phase of the vaccination exercise to extend its reach.

Veterinary officers, animal health officers, and Concern Worldwide staff attended the meeting.
