COUNTY COMPLETES ROUTINE MAINTENANCE WORK OF NAPEROBEI ROAD

Turkana County Government has completed routine maintenance on the 2.5-kilometre Naperebei road, linking House of Hope and Tobong’ulore in Kanamkemer Ward, Turkana Central Sub-County.

The road was among the key infrastructures affected by the recent destructive floods that hit the area destroying parts of the important feeder road.

This was announced by the CECM for Roads, Transport, and Public Works, Faith Aletea, who led an inspection team to review the concluded works.

“Our future goal as a county is to have roads that can withstand the challenges of changing weather patterns,” CECM Aletea stated.

The works included grading, compacting and repair of areas swept by floods to enhance the roads’ structural integrity and utility value.

CECM Aletea emphasized the necessity of integrating climate resilience into road maintenance due to the challenges posed by heavy rains and climate change.

Chief Officer for Roads and Public Works, Engineer Mark Achila, supported CECM Aletea’s call for climate-smart interventions.

“In the coming financial year, our roads will benefit from the installation of culverts to further improve durability,” CCO Achila added.

The maintenance work is a crucial step in ensuring safe and reliable transport for the local community, particularly in the face of unpredictable weather patterns.
