COUNTY BANKS ON USAID NAWIRI PARTNERSHIP FOR STRENGTHENING GEOSPATIAL INFORMATION SYSTEM

USAID Nawiri, led by System Strengthening Lead Edwin Mbaya, met with Turkana County government officials to explore partnership opportunities in strengthening Geospatial Information Systems (GIS).

The discussions, which were keen on developing strategic approaches to resource mobilization, were welcomed by Deputy Governor Dr John Erus.

Dr Erus emphasized the importance of building strong systems and structures to support resource mobilization efforts.

“Management of partnerships and identifying key areas for collaboration are essential,” stated Dr Erus.

He further urged for detailed maps that capture significant investments and distribution patterns within the county.

The Deputy Governor expressed commitment to initiating discussions to support the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) directorate.

Deputy Director Monitoring and Evaluation John Ekaru provided a summary of the county’s current GIS capabilities and highlighted areas where support is needed, including budgeting, investment in modules, and licensing.

This collaboration between USAID Nawiri and the Turkana County Government has the potential to significantly improve resource management and decision-making through the use of robust GIS systems.

The meeting was attended by Deputy County Secretary Joseph Nyang’a, Director Resource Mobilization, Raphael Logum,Deputy Director Resource Mobilization, Mike Aupe and Director of ICT, Isaac Eregae. USAID Nawiri officials were also present.
