DG DR JOHN ERUS HOSTS A DELEGATION FROM WORLD BANK, MINISTRY OF ROADS AND TRANSPORT AND KENHA

The Deputy Governor, Dr. John Erus today hosted a joint delegation from the World Bank, Ministry of Roads and Transport, and Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) who paid a courtesy call to his office at the Turkana County Government Headquarters.

The purpose of this meeting, which is the first bi-annual supervision mission (Implementation Support Mission) by The World Bank, was to discuss the progress of the Eastern Africa Regional Transport, Trade and Development Facilitation Project (EARTTDFP) within the region.

Deputy Governor appreciated the support from World Bank in advancing infrastructure within the county, and called for continued collaboration as the facilities within the project are set to be completed by June this year.

DG Erus affirmed that the county government was ready to support both the national government and the bank in facilitating the implementation of the project within the county.

Dr Erus also stressed on the need for stakeholder involvement to ensure that residents of Turkana benefit from the social and infrastructural components of the project which include education, water, and health among others.

The County Secretary, Peter Eripete, requested the World Bank team to expedite the Kawalase water supply project terming as long overdue.

The World Bank team, led by Susan Owuor, called for collaboration and support from all the stakeholders involved on ensuring quality of services are delivered.

The meeting was attended by officials from The World Bank, Judith Kerich (Ministry of Roads and Transport- PMO, World Bank Funded Projects) and Deputy Director Eng. Eric Wambua (KENHA) among others.

The senior county government officials in attendance included County executives Leah Audan (Tourism, Culture and Natural Resources), Elizabeth Loote (Education, Sports and Social Protection) and chief officers Robert Loyelei (Trade, Enterprise Development and Cooperatives), Dr Gilchrist Lokoel (Medical Services), and Paul Lodun’ga (Office of the Governor).
