More than 1000 Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) centers in Turkana County are set to benefit after the flagging off, 8333 bags of 25kgs fortified porridge.
The distribution will cover Turkana Central (1,733 bags), Turkana East (1000 bags), Loima, Turkana West, and Turkana North will each get 1400 bags.
Chief Officer for Sports and Vocational Training, Leah Losiru, stated that school feeding programs have historically boosted attendance, transition, and completion rates, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions like Turkana.
The nutrient-rich fortified porridge, a blend of sugar, corn, soybeans, vitamins, and essential minerals, is expected to provide high nutritional value to the ECDE learners.
The flag-off ceremony was attended by the Director for ECDE, Ezekiel Kulal, and marks the second phase of the supply for the 2023-2024 financial year.
This initiative demonstrates the Turkana county governments’ commitment to supporting early childhood education and addressing the challenges faced by communities in arid and semi-arid regions.
