Enhancing water access in Turkana County took center stage at a forum held by county government officials and USAID Nawiri.

The meeting, focused on water quality and improved partner coordination, was a key event for water access programs implementation.

The County Chief Officer for Water Services, Simon Etom, emphasized that better coordination could eliminate redundant efforts and strengthen the governance system.

“Coordinated partnerships will facilitate information sharing and comprehensive data collection, guiding our decision-making processes,” Etom remarked.

USAID Nawiri WASH Manager, James Nachule, presented an overview of the 28 projects implemented by the organization across Turkana.

“Our projects include drilling boreholes, upgrading existing water supply systems, and strengthening governance structures,” said Nachule.

He underscored the importance of coordination for the success of water supply initiatives and promised regular updates on project statuses.

Other issues discussed included media coverage, community engagement, support for water quality concerns, resource sharing and mobilization, and climate change adaptation.

The forum was attended and addressed by Paul Lotum (Director for Water Services), Pius Opuru (Water Services Partnership Lead), Sub County Water Officers, and representatives from the Water Resource Authority.
