Lodwar, 28th August 2024 (Governor’s Press Service) – Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai has urged development organizations operating in Turkana to forge stronger partnerships with the County Government to maximize the impact of donor-funded projects and minimize resource wastage.
Speaking at the opening of an induction workshop for the UN at Devolved Project, Governor Lomorukai emphasized the importance of better coordination and collaboration between all stakeholders to accelerate progress towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other development objectives.
“By working together, we can achieve more tangible results than operating in silos,” the Governor said. “Let us avoid resource wastage by strengthening partnerships, improving coordination, and ensuring open communication.”
The UN at Devolved Project, under the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF 2022-2026), aims to address the myriad challenges facing Turkana and other arid and semi-arid lands (ASAL) counties.
The project seeks to promote collaboration between the County Government, UN agencies, international development partners, and the private sector to implement development priorities as outlined in the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) and the Governor’s nine-point agenda.
Governor Lomorukai expressed hope that the UN at Devolved Project will contribute to stronger collaboration between the UN and County Government. He emphasized the need for better transparency, accountability, and open communication among all partners.
“I encourage all partners to engage in joint planning and integrated programming to address development challenges more effectively,” he stated.
Officials present at the meeting included the Head of Office, UN Resident Coordinator Office (UNRCO), Ulrika Ferenius; Development Coordination Officer, Partnership and Development Finance, UNRCO Dr. Zeinabu Khalif; Head of Sub-office UNHCR –Kakuma, Sateesh Nanduri; and Project Manager UN@ Devolved Level Project, UNRCO Susan Aletia.
Senior County Officials present included Deputy County Secretary Dr. Albert Gamoe and Chief Officer for the Office of the Deputy Governor, Robert Loyelei among others.
