Lokitaung – 13th September, 2024 (Public Communications and Media Relations)
The County Department of Health and Sanitation has plans to strengthen Lokitaung Sub-county Hospital to expand its services and reduce reliance on distant facilities.
During a visit to assess the hospital’s capacity, Chief Officers Cathra Abdi (Preventive and Promotive) and Dr Ezekiel Etelej (Medical Services) explored ways to enhance services and reduce referrals to Lodwar County Referral Hospital, over 200 kilometers away.
“We want this hospital to offer more specialized healthcare services so that patients don’t have to travel all the way to Lodwar for services that can be provided here,” said Dr Etelej.
He added that the hospital’s modern operating theatre, donated by Spanish doctors, is a valuable asset that should be fully utilized.
Chief Cathra praised the hospital staff for their dedication and encouraged them to continue using available resources efficiently.
The COs instructed the sub-county team to compile a comprehensive report outlining the hospital’s current needs, including human resource for health, infrastructure, and medical equipment.
They also inspected ongoing infrastructure projects, such as the construction of a new mortuary, laboratory, and staff housing.
Other health facilities visited included Riokomor (located in Lakezone Ward) and Kachoda Dispensaries.
Also present during the visits were Deputy Director of Family Health Lopodo Ekal, County Health Promotion Officer Ruth Areman, and members of the Sub-county Health Management Team.
