The Department of Health and Sanitation, in conjunction with NAYA – The Network for Adolescents and Youth for Africa, to empower young people and boost their advocacy abilities in the county.

The youth-led advocacy will target issues such as HIV, gender-based violence, menstrual health, and sexual and reproductive health. NAYA plans to equip them with the knowledge and tools to advocate for their rights effectively.

NAYA, funded by UNFPA, would be engaging with existing youth groups like the Maisha Youth Registered.

Their approach includes conducting an assessment of the specific needs of Turkana’s youth, training county government staff to better support young advocates, and developing comprehensive guidelines.

These guidelines will act as a key resource mobilisation tool for the county, ensuring the continuity and sustainability of youth-focused initiatives.

“This collaboration is a step forward in ensuring that our youth are well-equipped to make informed decisions and advocate for their rights,” said the Director of Public Health Alfred Emanman.

In attendance were members of the Senior Health Management Team.
