Lopur – 7th November 2024 (Public Communications and Media Relations)
Over 50,000 small ruminants in Lopur Ward have been vaccinated, dewormed and treated in an exercise jointly conducted by the County Government and Turkana Pastoralist Development Organization (TUPADO).
The vaccination campaign has been part of a project dubbed ‘Pathways to prosperity’ in partnership with Danish Refugee Council and Dan Church Aid. The project focuses on strengthening and expanding inclusivity of three core market systems: climate-smart agriculture; Water Sanitation and Hygiene and livestock pastoralism.
With funding from the Danish International Development Agency, the exercise focused on enhancing livestock health by the county government to conduct mass vaccination campaigns, livestock deworming and treatment to control transboundary animal diseases.
The intervention also involved community sensitization on livestock disease reporting and training of the Community Disease Reporters as part of the efforts to manage animal diseases in hard-hit communities along the border areas.
