TURKANA COUNTY ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE REVIEWS ENERGY POLICY BILL TO DRIVE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Eliye – 12th November 2024 (Public Communications and Media Relations)

The Turkana County Assembly Committee on Lands, Energy, Housing, and Urban Areas Management, and County department responsible for Energy convened at Eliye Springs to review the Turkana County Energy Policy, Bill, and Regulations 2024

These new frameworks aim to set a comprehensive legal foundation for energy governance, targeting streamlined operations, enhanced efficiency, sustainability, and resource optimization across the county.

In his remarks, the Committee Chairperson Hon. Patrick Losuru highlighted the urgent need for supportive legislation in various devolved sectors, noting that energy remains particularly underserved.

He stated that the policy will promote better development outcomes and effective management of energy resources, aligning with constitutional mandates outlined in Kenya’s 2010 Constitution.

Speaking in the meeting, the Chief officer for Energy and Mineral Resources, Triza Amoni, explained the critical intersection of energy access and displacement as a growing global challenge.

“We’re gathered at a pivotal moment to address one of the most pressing issues facing our society,” she stated.

Amoni noted that displaced populations often endure precarious conditions, lacking not only necessities but also reliable access to sustainable energy.

The meeting was also attended by Jackson Lojore (Director for Energy and Petroleum Production), Geoffrey Eregae (Deputy Director for Energy and Petroleum), and Ronald Kerebur (Electrical inspector).
