Turkana County Deputy Governor Dr. John Erus recently met with representatives from the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) and Wellcome Trust to discuss a collaborative project aimed at addressing the impacts of climate change on nutrition and mental health.

The project, which focuses on children under five and women of reproductive age, is part of a broader effort to understand and mitigate the effects of climate change on vulnerable populations in East Africa’s dry lands.

“We are dedicated to working collaboratively to improve Turkana’s development, particularly by engaging with the community,” said Dr. Erus, expressing the county government’s commitment to the partnership.

Dr. Regina Kaanja of APHRC emphasized the importance of local collaboration, stating, “Our next steps include data collection and analysis, followed by community training.”

The partnership between Turkana County, APHRC, and Wellcome Trust aims to inform evidence-based policies and interventions to address the challenges posed by climate change.
