More than 30 field administrators, including Sub-County, Ward, and Village administrators, have completed a five-day training on Community Integrated Assessment and Action Planning (CIAAP).
The training, a collaborative effort between the County Government of Turkana and USAID’s NAWIRI program, aimed to empower administrators with participatory approaches to community development.
The training sessions demonstrated the use of the community visioning and documentation tool as well as emphasized participatory techniques in data collection, which are critical for informing community-led action plans.
Chief Officer for Administration and Disaster Management, David Maraka, highlighted the USAID Nawiris’ shift in development focus from the Ward level to the Village level as the basic common that informed the need for the exercise.
He urged the trainees to champion the implementation of the NAWIRI program, noting that it is designed to benefit the common citizen.
Chief Officer Maraka also reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to supporting the USAID NAWIRI programme and called on all the trained administrators to raise awareness about the program within their localities.
Participants visited Nasiger, Lokoyo and Namunyen Akwaan in Turkwel Ward, Loima Sub-County, as NAWIRI sets to expand operations from 22 to 25 Wards.
The new community documentation tool, central to the program, integrates resource mapping, needs identification and ranking, vulnerability assessment, and action planning.
Through this approach, USAID NAWIRI aims to equip communities to better cope with climate change shocks and socio-economic challenges, further strengthening Turkana County’s efforts to combat malnutrition and foster sustainable development.
