Turkana County Deputy Governor, Dr. John Erus, hosted representatives from the World Food Programme (WFP) to discuss strategies to address food insecurity in the region.
“We deeply appreciate the sustained partnership with Turkana County. These collaborations have significantly improved community interventions,” said Dr. Erus.
The Deputy Governor emphasized the importance of shifting from short-term humanitarian assistance to long-term solutions that promote resilience and self-reliance. “We are committed to fostering development and investments that address food insecurity while empowering our communities,” he added.
Dr. Erus highlighted the need for vocational training institutions to equip the community with practical skills, particularly in agriculture and technology.
The WFP Deputy Country Director, Baimankey Sankoh, commended the long-standing collaboration with the county government in implementing various development initiatives.
The team will be joining Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai Napotikan at the World Fisheries Day event on November 21, 2024, at Eliye Springs, where the implementation phase of the Dutch-funded ‘Unlocking the Potential of the Lake Turkana’ project will be launched.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to strengthen partnerships and implement strategies that ensure sustainable food security in Turkana.
