Lodwar, December 5th, 2024 (Governor’s Press Service)– Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai today presided over the swearing-in ceremony of County Executives and the County Attorney at the County headquarters in Lodwar.
County Executives Dr. Joseph Epem (Health), Benson Lokwang (Roads), Wiljustus Lopeyok (Education), and Roseline Aite (Trade) were sworn in by Lodwar Principal Magistrate Charles Mayamba.
In his remarks, Governor Lomorukai urged the County Executives to approach their roles with the highest level of professionalism and accountability.
“Your success will not only reflect in the achievements of your departments but also in the improved lives of the residents of Turkana County,” the Governor said.
Governor Lomorukai appealed to Turkana University to allow students to sit for exams as the leadership works on securing funds through the County bursary. He called for decorum on social media to avoid creating animosity among leaders and residents of Turkana County.
The County boss, accompanied by First Lady Lillian Ekamais, stated that his administration will only work with responsible and transparent Non-Governmental Organizations whose programs have a significant impact.
Governor Lomorukai reiterated his commitment to fostering unity in the County and assured that the Government was processing payments for Community Health Volunteers.
Deputy Governor John Erus expressed the County Government’s dedication to delivering its development agenda and rallied support from leaders and residents.
Speaker Christopher Nakuleu commended the Governor for considering gender diversity and urged the County Executives to help the government fulfill its mandate to the residents of Turkana. He called for civility from those criticizing the Government and warned against early political campaigns that could hinder development programs and service delivery in Turkana.
Governor Lomorukai explained that the executive would continue working closely with the County Assembly and encouraged youth to apply for jobs recently advertised by the County Public Service Board.
Oncologist Suleka Edaan was recognized for her recent award for her contributions to the fight against cancer.
MCAs who spoke included Majority Leader Stephen Edukon, Minority Whip Vincent Ekipor, James Ikeny (Kanamkemer), and Ruth Kuya (Lodwar Township).
Senior County Government officials present included County Secretary Peter Eripete, Deputy County Secretary Joseph Nyang’a, County Executives, Chief Officers, and a host of Directors.
