Abra Minch, Ethiopia, December 8th, 2024 (Governor’s Press Service) — Governor Lomorukai in a historic address at the 19th Ethiopian Nations, Nationalities, and People’s Day called for Ateker people to build on the ties that unite them to enhance development in the region.
He highlighted the unbreakable bonds between Kenya and Ethiopia, emphasizing the shared history, culture, and resources that unite their people.
The Governor expressed his gratitude to South Ethiopia Regional State President Tilahun Kebede, lauding his administration for the transformative collaboration between Turkana and South Omo communities.
“We have turned shared history into shared prosperity,” Governor Lomorukai stated, celebrating milestones like the peaceful sharing of water and pasture, cross-border trade in livestock and fish, and enhanced security efforts that have significantly reduced conflicts.
He called for greater cooperation in tapping into the vast potential of River Omo and other shared resources, in transforming livelihoods and driving economic growth for border communities.
In his closing remarks, he called for unity, dialogue, and innovation as the key to a future defined by peace and prosperity for all.
Women Representative Hon. Cecil Ishuu asked the people of Ateker to leverage on their shared heritage for prosperity.
Speaker Christopher Nakuleu noted the trade potential of the area, urging for the removal of both tariff and no tariff barriers.
Senior County officials accompanying the Governor from the County Executive were led by Peter Eripete (County Secretary).
